CONES DE POLYNESIE, POLYNESIAN CONIDAE
Author : David Touitou & Michel Balleton

Conus auratinus Da Motta,1982

Taille moyenne : 60-90 mm
Rarity : Very rare
Habitat : It an outer reef species. In Tuamotu it is found also in the pass. It is hidden under huge coral plates or burried in sand pockets.
Discussion : This very nice species, is not endemic to Polynesia though. Two variations are presnet here : one is more elongate and has more dense triangles, the other more classical is a larger shoulder and has wider clear brown pattern with less dense triangles.
Average size : 60-90 mm

Takapoto (Tuamotu)
Ahe (Tuamotu)
Takapoto (Tuamotu) 78.2 mm
& Ahe (Tuamotu) 78.9 mm
